Updates!

I just realised that the last time i posted was in febuary! OMG... how time flies. We have now entered the season of lent, and guess what? suprise suprise, i am aout 3 months away from the sunny island that i call home.

Michelle and the rest of the "SIA" gang have been struggling to come to a consensus regarding which flight to take back, tentatively, it's the 1830hrs flight on 9 June.

Ok.. so what's been happening? Spent my first chinese new year away from home. First out of a series of 4 i hope, 3 undergraduate years and 1 post graduate. I have never known that we could get so much food just for a simple steamboat. OMG, the amount of chinese mushrooms, lettuces, pork and seafood was just monumental, even chieh and i couldn't finish the food, and that speaks alot of the sheer amount of the food available. Kudos to everyone at home! thank you for all the red packets and well wishes, on a side note, could you all please convert the money inside the lovely red packets to POUNDS please, it makes life easier wahaha... just joking.

SHOUTS out to my dearest Nehru-nians, sigh, we are all scattered across different timezones, but at least we still got our little email group thingy up and working. SHERYL MEL AND PRIS!!! what have all of you been up to?? Pris i know better, how about the two of you?

NYDIA... the one that i miss most when i am away is FINALLY in the US! getting some white meat... i am gonna miss her so much... talking to you over msn just doesn't seem to cut it

To the absolute horror of my beloved MOTHER... i drove in the UNITED KINGDOM MUAHAHA... drove a Peugot 206 Manual Sports edition, how cool is that. Drove to Cardiff, Stonehenge and Exmoor National Park before heading back to London, about 500 miles in total over the course of two days, For the record, top speed we reached? 180KMPH weehee... i won't comment on that though, except for th fact that the five minutes that we were on that speed, the petrol tank seemed to developed a leak or something. BUT: side notes to the rash headed kids who think you can speed on the roads: please know that speeding kills. ours was a controled experiment. :D

Photos to all of these would come later, when i finally get my lazy ass off the bed to upload the photos.

Next, CONGRATULATIONS to all the superteens who got the O and A level results, well done to all of you... especially to the gang from OASIS and the peeps from school trainings! it's only the start to a great path... keep treading!

been experiencing a period with alot of gas inside my tummy recently, guess im eating too much garlic and onions. hahaha

GOING on... im in a dilemna right now, so could i ask each and everyone's help right now... please vote... perhaps on my tagboard or something, what i should invest over the summer:

1) A brand new MAC with Leopard OS or...
2) A new Digital SLR

both have its own advantages and disadvantages, please let me know of your views.

Alright, enough for now, better get back to the world of growth theory, beta and gamma functions and Double Log equations. damned!

bys priority: regress life work play wage pleasure

whatever.

FLEA work hard!!!!

Hot Chocolate for My British Chilled Soul

"it's awfully sweet how everyone supports each other so much here. feeling ill and no mummy? your friends will cook porridge for you and bring it to your room. not feeling hungry/feeling lazy to have dinner? someone will ta bao food for you. feeling homesick and having a 20th birthday? a XXX toy customized to your personal fantasies delivered straight to your room"

Your most welcome dear girl... most welcome.

Such is the lifestyle of an overseas student. Abit sad, but you have to lose something to gain something ya? Don't know why i have been so emo lately... maybe its time to change my playlist.

BYS Pain in the Ass: Regress Parking Wardens Farktards BBCs

ALRIGHT... the title says it all.

FIRST! LAW ENFORCEMENT SHOULD NOT BE CARRIED OUT BY ABSOLUTE IDIOTS WHO HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE WORD AND ARE IN IT FOR FUCKING PROFIT.

First people on my list to kill:

MOTHER F*CKING PARKING ATTENDANTS

I have nothing against the job, the job is simple, just make sure that people don't park their vehicles illegally. BUT the following behavior just don't cut it man:

  1. Hanging around for fucking 3 hours in the same car park just to book a car the minute its coupon expires - dun u dare say you MFIs don't do such stuff.. i have witnessed it both in SINGAPORE and LONDON - SCREW U _!_
  2. SPRAYING yes spraying a yellow line under a car to book the blardy vehicle. I CAN'T believe that shit!!! SOME IDIOT sprayed a yellow line under a car so that he could book it and clock his commission... blardy bastards i tell u.
  3. Booking someone whom just asked u for directions to the nearest parking toll meter... blardy backstabber... she just turned around to put coins in and you are already booking her
  4. Booking AMBULANCE and emergency vehicles! WTF? you book an ambulance so that you can get a measely commission... where are your morals and conscience?
  5. BOOKING YOUR FUTURE QUEEN???? a.k.a. the lovely and absolutely gorgeous kate middleton muahaha..

as we all say... first world country... third world system!

OOOH.... most exciting thing that happened... or rather... the most teasing, was the Play Cinderalla put up by UCL Union's LGBT society, absolutely fantastic... lovely 4 quid worth of entertainment.

Mel: you blardy pig,.. only care about the cookies... how about benedict??? i bet you just left him to rot... muahhaa

Something Familiar ...

YES! we managed to pull of Michelle's 20th Birthday celebration Suprise without much of a hitch, that was beside the initial shock we had when she told us she wanted dinner with us so that she could eat what was remaining of the chocolate fondue wahaha...

I'm quite happy that we did it so nicely!!! everything went on as planned! hehehe... the planning and deliberation did pay off... and the fantastic acting too by Jialing and Chong Lin!! Michelle din even suspect a thing!!! wakaka... and to the guys who were over so early to blow up the ballons and Antonio wakaka...

Photos would come later, but they will be rated M18, so no underaged viewers please :D

Yafen and I were both super pleased to see Michelle enjoying herself, albeit a little too much on the drinking bit... wahahaha... 10 minutes into her birthday, and she got really pissed drunk haha. The entire event has actually led me to think of home and how far we have all come since last september.

Of course i miss family! Daddy Mummy and Flea... then theres Jules KNNBCCB LAU JP. hahaha and loads others... MEL TOO!!! haha although she DID try to make us appear suppossedly attached hahaha... and of course... the people who stood by me through years of shit and lame ass growing up.

PRIS, MEL and SHERYL!!!!! hahaha i still of the days when we were back at OBS... haha seems like so long ago...

well... time will tell... time will tell...

Climate Change for Singapore!

As seen on yahoo news

Caption: Bush Arrives in Singapore

Haha Singapore is SOOOOOO Cold? Someone is not doing his job!!!

Some People Just Have Too Much Free Time

!Xobile

Who could have guessed that a single name could bring about hours and hours of enjoyment.

With the recent spate of events going on both in Singapore and in Lonon, my itchy mouth and fingers strain towards the keyboard.

Firstly, I would like to turn the attention, though not neccessary in any case, to the recent "insensitive remarks" made by a RJC student about the state of the "uneducated"and the subsequent apologies made by her and her "elite" father.

All the fuss just because some idiot had the guts (balls) to point out what many people thought of as obvious but without the brains to do so tactfully. Sigh, blame the scholarship board for giving such a person the humanities scholarship, then again, it's not the first time that they made such a mistake :P.

I would qualify the statement i made above. Personally, I disagree with what i have read about the post. I do believe that there is always something one can contribute to society regardless of educational level.

Geeky as I may sound, i guess one of the reaons for the high levels of productivity in today's workforce of Singapore is the strong traditional work ethics each of us would have. This is indeed passed down by the stereotypical older and "less educated" generation. Who is anyone to discount the contributions made by the generations before us?

Sad to say, these values have slowly and surely been eroded with the passage of time, and maybe due to the fact that we are proud to be a melting pot for cultures.

I overheard someone saying that "it is we, those who have benifitted most from the system that attack the system"how true the statement is. I think it does remind me of what mummy and daddy keep reiterating when i was much younger, that the person who you love most is the one who will hurt you most. Damned.

On such a topic of Eliticism, i think that i would call for such young brats to be thought the values and that they live them. One of the things i read from western literature is having "the attitude of gratitude", looks like we lost some of our bearings while we were busy trying to chase out misty dreams that western pop culture offered.

To me, spelling and counting are all skills. If you spend enough time on it, you would be able to master it without much problems. Attitudes however, are what makes or breaks you. Attitudes form habits and habits form character. Looks like RJC has a long way to go, considering the reputation and sheer numbers of its errant and insensitive students.

I think this insensitiveness extends far from our shores, throughout the last few weeks, the newspapers and tabloids have been carrying headlines and stories that blast out the debates on the islamic head scarf and veil.

From what i have read, the politicians here want to do away with the scarf as they deem it as "a form of exclusion", it's really quite scary to note the number of politicians pushing for it, and the sheer number of people polled who agree with them 95% said that the headdress should go!

Well, it IS their religion! it's not as if they are wearing it for comfort or for the fact that they want to conceal their identities, but hey! who am i to say anything?

Justin wants a Aeroplane
Kiat wants a Capsule
Ivan just wants to kick ass
hahaha what a way to complement our efforts in studying maths in the library.

Long Awaited Update!!!

Cheers to everyone for the well wishes and concern, paricularly to my family, daddy mummy and Flea, and also to everyone is my extended family for your concern.

To my friends too, sorry i havent been able to update, have been really bz but i do want to reply some of your posts first before posting my update.

Nydia: HEHE i havent had the time to write the email yet, but yes, will do it real soon
Jules: No i am not coming back with mel during the dec break
Carm: This isn't the only way to know what i'm up too, you don't come online often enough :D
Flea: WASSUP with the animated photo of me??? mel had to call me from surrey to burst out laughing haha.

Ok... now, turning to the tourist side of me, may i present a short, photo log of what i have seen/experience so far earlier photos can be seen here

First things first, PORTEBELLO MARKET. Dudes if you do want antique stuff, do makesure that you head down to this cosy little place for a little bargain and treasure hunting.

Next would be the infamous London eye which i paid 10 pounds for the view is spectacular, but for those of you waiting to sit on the sore along the river thames, it would be good that you have an ADULT oyster to enjoy the lovely discount

After all these sight seeing, it was time to do SOME SHOPPING!!!! yeah, so off we went to Bicester Village, just off the little town of Oxford, the latter of which, i think is over rated. To say the least, i'm pretty glad that i'm in london. :D

so there you go. Warehouse price i may add.

On the intellectual forefront, the catholic society here does organise pretty decent talks. Have attended 3 so far aptly named:

1. When Christianity and Islam Clash

2. Shakespeare and the Church

3. The History of the Papacy

Edit: Here is a photo of how a talk organised by the cathsoc looks like, we all seem pretty intelligent eh?

Pretty cool stuff going on there. It's a good way to end a monday i guess. I am currently uploading the pictures from my Phone, and i will add edits once its done. so that's it for now :D

The problem that we all have

Nothing much in particular really, just some random rantings.

Read an essay taht was written some time ago so i really don't know its relevance to today's society. It was titled: Individualism and Economics

it started off as saying that how " individualism" has now been polarised as opposed to socialism and blah blah... an interesting take on the essay however is that it DOES argue that every single innovation that has ever graced our earth HAS been in deed come from individualism, and i kind of agree with it.

Any single person, would most probably set his mind and effort into creating something that HE really needs, he really doesn't have to care about what other's need. he has to essentially satisfy his own ned first. That is the fundamental assumption of Grandpa's Smith's Wealth of Nations.

Turning the clock back to the 21st century, could this form of individualism promote the evolution of society as it has done in the past? or has the fear that terrorism brings suppressed this value of individualism.

The writer of the essay, Hayek, also states that we are progressively, becomming social animals, making decisions which are based on the progress of the entire community, which he does argue, is detrimental to the progress of our society. Confusing? hell yeah.

could we apply individualism to the current situation of terror? maybe?maybe not?

As the days pass here, it has really dawned onto me, the value and importance of the government in maintaining cultural and racial harmony.

Don't get me wrong, i am not a man in white, neither am i saying things as such because i am fearful of the repurcussions. Yes, sometimes i do feel that some policies are worth laughing at, a la " talking cock in parliament", but SOME policies DO MAKE alot of sense and you will kind of miss it when you are not in it.

Take the HDB's stand of racial quota's for example. before i left, i sincerely and really thought that of as absolute trash. but fwoa! after reading a moderate number of books and passing through several areas here, i seriously think that it was a hell of a good idea!!!!!!

I seriously cannot imagine life now without it. it would be a serious degression back into the states of Kampung life! as an economist, i daresay that this attempt at creating a psuedo homogeneous heartland, would be key in maintaining a keen level of investment in our little island state, not only because of the fact that it promotes racial harmony ( no racial riots bla bla), but it does allow our foreign friends a wide choice of where to locate their factories!!!!

Imainge this, say we go back to raffles era where chinese occupy chinatown and the malays Kampung Glam ( is this right?) and the indians... well i'm not sure, so i won't assume. And then, due to the great work of EDB STB, blah blah, we attract Saudi Arabia to set up a big ass oil firm here, maybe regional hub or something, and it so happens that Kampung Glam is the best place to be in, maybe because of the good infrastructure and so on, due to the fact that maybe the people there are more hardworking, more cohesive, you know, the intangible characteristics.

Its a cycle Innovate ( building up), reaping rewards, reinvestment and re-innovating - malcom gladwell-- the area just keep getting better and better, and soon, because of the disparity between areas, conflicts will arise, infrastructure and social structure breaks down and no one wins.

hmmm... ranting, as i said. all this rant while i'm waiting for my lecture to start and posting this in the wonderful wilkins library. i should post pictures of the lirbary soon!!!

This was taken from Yahoo! Singapore, if you want the report in its entirety, its here

This is damned funny, I'm not laughing at the issue, its a serious issue, but i'm laughing at the way that it is reported.

"This was being done in digital format through peer-to-peer file sharing programmes and networks.

After extensive probes, the police ascertained the identities of the suspects, as well as their modus operandi.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects installed file sharing programmes in their computers and used them to search for copyrighted songs in digital formats via the file sharing networks.

Once identified, these songs were downloaded from the computers of other online users who were also connected to the same file sharing network.

The suspects need not pay for the song downloads
."

WTF.... check this out. Ladies, you are in for a great laugh

Fair Trade

I was at the Refectory, oh yes, they have such high class names for everything simple around here, basically it means a cookhouse (yes gents, a cookhouse, you know what that is don't you) and i was just contemplating on how much emphasis the people here are putting on fair trade. For those of you who are still stuck in the world of "globalisation doesn't bother me", you can find out what fair trade is about here.

Basically, all that the organisation aims to do is to give a "fairer" portion of profits to the producers of the raw material, usually from a third world country. This money, apparently, goes to admirable things such as education, irrigation, blah blah, life improvements and the sorts.

However, as a cynic myself, i was just curious about how much of the money is really going to the producers themselves.

Firstly, it does cost money to run an organisation, not to mention one that monitors where and who the products come from. On top of that, they would have to also monitor the flow of finances, and i do mean dollars and sense, so you mean all these people doing these things are noble and that they do it out of their own sweet and good willed hearts? unlikely man. Even St Peter says that man must first satisfy his own earthly needs before he can be of service to God, so who's paying these people and where do they get the money from?

Next, the money, if any, and in whatever amount, goes back to the producers via a middle man. There goes another cut.

I am not saying its bad, i am just saying, is it efficient to run an programme in this manner, of course, it would be better to have such a programme running than none at all. so its a choice between two devils perhaps?

Enough for a morning' s worth of rant.

Have A Heart.

Ok... its one of my few challenges that i have made for myself to be accomplished by the end of my 3 years at UCL, that is to raise 1 million dollars for UNICEF, so pls have a heart, and click on the Donate button to the right of the post entries.

LONDON!

Greetings from London!

Arrived on the 19th of Sept and have spent the last few days really trying to make sense of the stuff that are zooming past me every single day.

From the nitty gritty things like settling my own meals to the bitch of having to queue up for OMG 6 hours just to enrol in my school. Seriously, as Anthony aptly put it just 4 days before i flew, "are we flying to a third world country?"

Seriously man, the very anal gripes include the fact that this country doesn't believe in air conditioning! WTF

Next thing: WTH issit with immigration staff. I thought the Singapore immigration officers were grumpy. fwoa. and having the cheek to put up the sign that reads : Our staff deserve a safe and secure working enviroment. DUDE! safe and secure working environment doesn't mean that your job is safe and secure, carry on this way and i bet you will lose it!

other than these naggy gripes, everything else have been a blast!
haha

Pictures later

L-O-V-E

Sorry pals, i am not in love, its the title of the song that has been stuck in my head for the entire day, its by Nat King Cole for the uninitiated.

Couple of things that i have discovered in the course of these few days:

1) Butt watching can be real fun

2) Widgets are cool, even if its for PCs and Laptops

3) I can go broke very fast... ( hint.. so pls click this and help save me from poverty)

4) Oyster Ommelette, also know as Au Jian is actually an overpriced dish because the ingredients are so blardy cheap.

5) That i should come up with a list that shows the ppl i miss when i leave

6) 13 more days. F lah.. less than 2 weeks

Proof that some people have really too much free time

Got this off TalkingCock.com

Teachers Day is 1 Sep. In their honour, we’re proud to bring you a list of TOP THINGS TEACHERS WISH THEY COULD TELL THEIR STUDENTS BUT CAN’T

1. Actually, you’ll never need to know most of what I’m asked to teach you.

2. I wish they didn’t make you come to school either.

3. Wait till you see what I’ve written about YOU on MY blog – www.siginnah.com

4. Don’t take this the wrong way, but where your father and mother brother and sister?

5. I really wish you were as smart as you think you are.

6. You know, it’s true. You really don’t have to go to study hard and go to university. I did, and look at the crappy job I got.

7. Please don’t breed. Please!

8. Jack Neo was wrong: you damn stupid (and you damn stupid too!)

Funny Things DO Happen in the Morning

How i wish i had the New Nokia N93 so that i can blog about things as i see them, but hey, its a want not a need, so i will do things the traditional way.

As i was dragging my feet back to the Tanjong Pagar Station from doing my visa, i suddenly realised that i was not only going uphill, but also against the entire horde of people. I won't consider it an epiphany but i guess it could be said that the situation did manifest itself as a representation of my life. Almost always uphill and against conventions. Misunderstood and Misrepresented.

Capital Building did seem really attractive. For 5 seconds, it would really feel good to step into that building and have the concierge greet you by name, though you would have to sacrifice 20 years of life and sell your soul to the devil just to get a place in there. Oh come on, you have got to realise what companies have their offices in there man.

On the brighter side of things, went to Burger King to get a drink while i was waiting for borders to open( who waits for borders to open?, queue NHH blushful thanks). As usual, the liat towers BK branch was the Oasis of coolness in the humid shit weather we have in singapore, and i was greeted by what i thought was a suprise.

BK Lady: "2 KOSONGS to go!!!"

me to myself: WTF... they sell pratas now here??? i mean come on, burger king does have an ad campaign now that says "you can have it as you like".

so... my mind went into a spin, only to realise that she DID mean "2 Croissant Meals to go."

all these happened before 10 in the morning, I have the day cut out for me man. C yer

Smelly Melly

Its 315am and im posting this long awaited update of my blog 40 km away from my house and on a mac book. It does somehow reflect how i am going to feel in about 2 weeks time.

in about 2 hours time, Melissa Chew will be flying off to the UK to do her studies.

This isn't a eulogy of sorts, but its a tribute to someone who has stood by me through the years, through so many heartbreaks and obstacles. For all the laughter, tears and shit that we shared... thank you mel, nothing can really express the depth of my gratitude.

See you in two weeks mel... then we can go visit your theme park

Cheers!

Thank You Flea

Haha... its a wonderful poem of sorts... though i disagree with the stupid part... cos you are the top International Student there, so yeah... hahah "stupid" is a pet name lah... not having its meaning :D

He has the most chisled face to draw.
But he has a good brain to brawl.

For him to say i’m stupid is quite a compliment,
since i’m no stupider than stupid, that’s pretty smart.

It was to be twenty years living with him,
Suffering in between.
But oceans separate our once in-the-way company.
Oh i miss you, don’t you think now that’s funny?

Remember the night talks on the ladder?
The shaking of bed on top.
Remember when we moved house?
You wanted your room to be all blue.

Remember the staples you/I placed in front of our door?
So that I couldn’t cross or crawl.
Did you remember about statue of St. Joseph?
About pushing the responsibility of his ‘almost’ fall.

Remember the times you forced me to play paper soccer?
With that many games, a love of it I’ve fostered.
Those games of Magic the Gathering,
and those lame chess games - tragic thinking.

Remember daddy made us catapults?
So we ended up mimiking a war while mummy’s cooking.
And you think veggies’ a cult.
Until you figured it out through army when everyone’s looking.

Quarrels and stuff we had,
a share big and fat.
And they thought we can’t get along,
Well, they’re as far off as Geelong.

So I guess you had fun yesterday,
And turning 21 the day after today.
A big change I guess?
I hope there’s stuff too juicy to press.

But all in all,
I wished I could be there.
To at least shower some love and care.

So this is for you.
My dearest brother,
My idol, most of the time,
My mentor, some of the time.
My arse, alittle bit most of the time.

Love you loads.
And yes, i believe this beats the BRANDED presents you received

thanks a mil man... love yer

Happy 41st

with 9 years shy of being half a century old, Singapore has definitely come a long way from the 3rd world country it once was. Having said so, how much have actually changed?

I was planning to write on loads of things, but i guess risking my 34K/year allowance wasn't worth, so here is one of the proposed titles i had in mind,i leave your imagination to do the rest

1)OIC Meetings: Huh? Do what shit sia?

TSPC was a realy blast, i did feel very proud of my friends who recieved the scholarships, not like the 7 of us who were sitting right and the back, and i had to sit under the set of 4 FREAKING spot lights, and i couldn't sleep!

Happy Birthday Singapore... for a relatively young country, you do certainly produce people who indeed treat the world as your playground!

How big is your classroom dude?

Go BEANY GO
